"Purity" - my acrylic inks on paper painting c. 2010.

Purity products are a standard in almost every Newfoundlander’s life. To give us the feeling of home, we send Purity products all over the world to our family members living away. I was one of those living away until I moved back to the island in 2009. One day I drove to the actual Purity building/factory and standing before me on Blackmarsh Road stood this crisp white building with shadows on the clapboard and the familiar red logo with the smell of nostalgic jam jams traveling with the wind – I had to paint it. As I finished painting the sky, I had the urge to write across it about the experience that brought me back to my 8-year-old self. If I had my time back I would have spelled "traveled" differently (oh well!). My nephew, Drew, owns the original painting.

"Purity has always been a big part of growing up in Newfoundland. From the ever-present Peppermint Nobs to the syrups served when the costumed "Mummers" come 'round at Christmas, Purity has been a part of family tradition across the island for nearly a century…" ~www.purity.nf.ca
