Connaught Public School - Collingwood, Ontario

$0.00

This acrylic on canvas painting of the old “Connaught Public School” was commissioned c.2007 by a fundraiser organization in Collingwood, Ontario. Prints and greeting cards of my painting were sold to help raise money to buy playground equipment for the new school. I was thrilled to showcase this historic structure since its fate, so far, is unknown.

Here’s a bit of history behind this old fella: In 1903 this school was rebuilt and the new building opened with 4 large rooms and 42 pupils per teacher with 168students in total. In 1911, the school name was changed to Connaught named after The Duke Of Connaught.During this time period, it was common to name institutions after BritishMonarchs. The Connaught school was in use until 1961 when pupils were moved to the facility on Peel Street Collingwood which would house a capacity of 225students.

no longer accept commissions. And because this was a commissioned painting, there are no prints, but you can browse my Art Gallery & Shop for available original paintings and prints.
